You can wear it and eat it, too!
Well, not exactly…  Even though a variety of new yarns have arrived at yarn•love, I wanted to knit up something new in a favorite-but-not-new yarn.   So, I chose Mission Falls Wool since it is wonderful to knit with and comes in a delicious color palette.  Seven colors of superwash merino wool will be transformed into a geometric scarf, which I’m calling Seven Layered Dish.  What could be easier?  You pick the seven colors and start knitting.  The scarf and pattern will be unveiled at the upcoming yarn•love affair.  Just think – you can wear this scarf at fall picnics and gatherings while munching on a retro seven layer salad.

Friday 9/12 10-8, Saturday 9/13 10-8, Sunday 9/14 1-4

You won't want to miss out!  We will have new yarns, kits!, patterns, accessories and bags, plus trunk shows, refreshments, and prize drawings each day!

Now, let’s focus on the eating!  There’s no denying it – summer’s end is nearing.  The Labor Day holiday weekend has passed and now we have the bittersweet “last ditch” cookouts and events.  I am heading to Skip and Joy’s pig roast (a very scary thing for a vegetarian!) and want to try out a new recipe.  I hope you’ll share your favorite side dish recipe.

I’ll get us started by sharing my often requested side dish, Holy Guacamole.   4 ripe avocados, ½ cup sweet onion, the greens of 2 green onions sliced thinly, 4 plum tomatoes chopped, 1 clove garlic minced, juice of 1 lime, 1 good splash tequila, chopped hot pepper to taste (jalapeno or habanero), couple pinches of chopped cilantro, sea salt to taste.  Serve with tortilla chips that can stand up to the dipping!  Thanks to my sister-in-law Chrissy for seriously turning me onto guacamole, and avocado slicers, at a beach weekend years ago.  Chrissy’s signature guacamole has extra flavor from Old Bay seasoning.  Yum!

I always go for the Tositos "gold" chips for guac...they are nice and thick to stand up to the thickest of guacamole!

My favorite side dish is Ina Garten's Orzo with Roasted Vegetables and Feta...you can substitute any in season vegetable...it's always a hit.
