Yarn Love

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

I recently received the 45th anniversary edition of Mary Poppins. So in the evenings I've been clicking through the behind the scenes makings of this beloved Disney tale. I've always loved the music and the story (especially the books!) but learning about how things were actually made has been fascinating. One thing that keeps coming through is Walt Disney's ability to find and then grow creative talent. He created an environment where individual creativity was allowed to bloom.

Knitting and crocheting--even when following someone else's pattern--is ultimately all about creating something new. Often I get so caught up in my list of "want to knit" and the urge to just have a project off the needles, that I forget about the creative journey, the blooming of design.

Last week we got in amazing yarn from Manos Del Uruguay. The women that spin and dye that yarn create for a living. Their very livelihood comes from their talent. That is no small feat! This week we're expecting a shipment of Dream in Color yarn. Even that company's name stirs the artist in me. Dream. In. Color. So many possibilities. I know it's easy to get overwhelmed by the countless projects in endless combinations of fiber. However, what joy is found in my craft when I allow my creativity to not only grow, but guide!

After all, the word "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" means being open to beauty as a teacher. Sounds practically perfect to me.
