Yarn Love

SPRINGing Forward

What a spoil this warm weather has been! I am eagerly awaiting the coming of spring so this issue of What's New is going to focus on upcoming spring delights. Last week both Knitscene (winter/spring) and Debbie Bliss (spring/summer) magazines arrived at the shop. The lovely cowl and tank combo featured on Knitscene's cover is done in the lovely Lustra yarn by Berroco. There are also some delightful sweaters that will wear well from winter into spring as well.

Debbie Bliss' new magazine is for all of us yearning for sunshine and seaside. Featured in the magazine is her new yarn Eco Baby which Yarn-Love will be getting in late February. This yarn is a 100% organic fair trade cotton. Because of its soft hand it is ideal for baby skin. Plus, it's washable!! If you love Baby Cashmerino, you'll love this cotton version which can be used as an exact substitute for the baby cash. Also included are patterns featuring Debbie's Prima (a bamboo/wool yarn) which will be debuting at Yarn-Love this spring.

We are also getting Noro Sekku. It's a new lace weight in the absolutely most gorgeous Noro inspired colors. [Hint: This would be an excellent choice for our February Knit Along as we are doing Citron. More details to come shortly.] For those not so inclined to knit on tiny needles, Sekku can be held with Debbie Bliss' Rialto DK or Baby Cashmerino for a lovely striping effect. Additionally, Yarn-Love is adding Noro's Taiyo to our shelves this spring as well. Taiyo is a cotton, silk, wool, nylon blend. Check out Pam's quick n' easy scarf sample at the shop!

If those colors, the thought of soft cotton, and the gentle drape of silky bamboo don't have you dreaming of spring and summer then you must not be living in Central PA! For all those anxious to put winter behind them, these delights will be arriving throughout February, but do stop in before then. We'd love to see you!

This year I did not make one Ops my bad. Now that I think about it I have to get my stash down and getting back to one project at one time. I have about 7 projects that I have floating around in my knitting area of my apartment. I feel so overwhelmed at times. That I have to knit to get these projects done. Knitting is not suppose to be a pressure or stressful kind of hobby, in my mind anyway. So there you have that is my resolution for the 2010 year!

My resolution is to have a year of knitting dangerously. I recently joined a group on ravelry that is all about pushing yourself to learn/relearn techniques that may have seemed scary or difficult in the past. I'm taking it as an opportunity to grow and I can't wait to see what I've learned by year's end. I've already learned so much!

My Knitting resolutions for the New Year: try a knit-along with a friend; dare to try lace knitting; try to think of knitting mistakes as creative opportunities.
What knitting resolutions are you making?
