Yarn Love

O Wool, What Art Thou?

Have you heard? yarn-love has a new yarn gracing its shelves. It's O-Wool's Balance. It's organic. It's got a slight tweedy-heathered look. It's soft. It's everything wool should be.

The Tunney Wool Company who produces O-Wool takes its organic mission seriously. They aren't trying to appeal to the individual on an organic buying crazy. Instead, they desire to produce high quality wool while protecting the animal and environment through sustainable methods. This means that the sheep are fed organic grains and allowed to forage; no synthetic hormones, vaccinations, or genetic engineering are allowed; use of synthetic pesticides can be used on the sheep or on the fields where they pasture; and livestock health is promoted by eliminating "dipping" and limiting livestock numbers so the land is not overgrazed. Furthermore, the wool is processed with biodegradable detergents and does not use synthetic textile oils, waxes, or acid baths. I found reading about their Organic Fiber Processing to be very fascinating. Check out their websitefor more facts!

Pam is currently knitting Aethercopter in preparation for her class. Which is great reminder to all of you considering taking one of our winter classes, now is the time to sign up! Shopgirl Shea's Spectra class has a second section open on March 24th since the March 10th class is full! Other classes like Cabled Neck Cozy and Reading Charts still have openings, but don't wait! You can sign up online, in theshop, or via phone

One last note before I go, last week I mentioned a fun project that I was excited about. Well, the lovely and talented Susan knit the Chinook Scarf out of Berroco's Seduce yarn. The drape and texture of the finished scarf is absolutely lovely. It's the perfect "garment" for anyone taking personal tropical vacations. [wink[ Then another Sue came in and decided she would prefer a woolier version and selected two balls of Sublime. In the midst of all this, I caught the knitting bug. I too opted for the Sublime because I'm always cold, and because I've had a crush on that golden yellow since it arrived at yarn-love.  I am really enjoying this knit. Attached is a picture of it so far.

I love when you all challenge and inspire me to try something new and different.
