Spring into New Beginnings!

I recently attended the Yarn Market News conference in Seattle where I spent several days attending sessions ranging from operations to finances to story telling and visual displays.  (This was the first business conference I’ve attended where it was not only acceptable but was EXPECTED that attendees knit during each session!)  The conference built in lots of opportunities for valuable networking with the 100-plus attendees who were all from the yarn industry – representatives from yarn and accessory companies, designers, and, of course, local yarn shop owners.  The lovely folks at Yarn Market News and the conference sponsors (including Della Q, Namaste, Skacel, and many more) pampered attendees with jam-packed goody bags, a super fun yarn shop crawl, and terrific meals (and wine).  I was so excited to get my hot hands on the brand new Addi Lace Interchangeable needles (more on those later), and Della Q gifted each attendee with a gorgeous interchangeable needle case.

But, let me get back to the conference.  In an early session, one of the speakers proposed, “Spring is a good time for new beginnings.”  I found myself nodding, along with all the other attendees, and knew that I would carry this simple and true message home with me and find ways to implement ‘new beginnings’ here at yarn-love.  I sincerely hope that that next time you fall into yarn-love, you will discover fresh products, colorful knitted and crocheted samples, exciting visual displays, and lots of opportunities for you to join our community through knit alongs, classes, Wednesday open knit and crochet nights, and First Fridays.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read what follows since we have lots to share.  This love note highlights mark your calendar, join us on facebook, what’s new, classes, and Ishbel knitalong.

Classes
Even though the beautiful spring weather tempts us to do more outside, we can still commit to keeping our knitting and crochet skills a priority all year round.  We’ve got lots of classes on our calendar from now through summer, with more coming.  As always, we have a mix of learn to knit and crochet classes, technique classes, and specific project classes.  Below is a list of brand new offerings!  View all classes on our website.  If you have a specific class request that you don’t see, contact us to inquire and be sure to include a brief description of what you’re looking for.
Ishbel Knit-along
Kristin will launch an Ishbel knit-along (KAL) in April.  We hope you join us whether you are near or far.  Details to follow in our blog and our Ravelry ‘yarn-love’ group, but here’s the scoop:
  • Knit your own dainty Ishbel in one of our laceweight or fingering weight yarns.
  • 330 yds for a small OR 610 yds for a larger version
  • Pattern for sale at yarn-love.
  • Settle in at our table and knit with us Wednesday nights at yarn-love.  This is the perfect project to complete in time for Mother’s Day.
  • Never knitted or scared to knit from a lace knitting chart? This is a great project from which to learn!
  • If you’re ‘far,’ knit with us from wherever you are and update us on our Ravelry group.
