First Friday and Your Show and Tell
Happy February Friends! I am so looking forward to sharing First Friday with all of you. I'll have my blanket project which is making slow progress, but progress none the less! Last first Friday I was so inspired by all the projects everyone wore to show and tell, that I did some Ravelry searching. What amazing artists you all are! I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite discoveries with you.
Erin molded her Bad Oyster in Colinette Jitterbug Zebra colorway for our newsletter, but I had fun reading her description of what it was like to actually knit and steek the project. Not only do we stock this pattern, but Pam has personally knit two and I have one on my needles. I think it might just be a yarn-love favorite. When it comes to shawls, Barb chose a beautiful Miss Babs colorway to complete a recent Stephen West pattern calledGyllis. I can't wait to see you wearing this shawl on your next visit to the store Barb! If you want to make your own, yarn-love carries many of his patterns and we also have a few copies of his pattern collections.
Since we're in the middle of a SAL, I wanted to share a couple beautiful blankets that were recently completed. Karen knit this lovelycabled blanketfor her upcoming grandbaby. It's simplicity will be the perfect accent to the warm little one swaddled in it. Meanwhile, Katie crocheted a bright and colorful blanket and the design she improvised on her own. Amazing!
Another Katie at yarn-love maximized the yardage of Dream in Color's Groovy yarn (a bulky weight) to make the Thick and Quick Ribbed Cowl. I personally think it turned out lovely and makes we want to have one myself. If you've ever met Katie she is the queen of cowls. Not only does she pick unique designs, she also knows how to get the most of her yarn. I really admire people who have an eye for color and color combinations. Sometimes I feel like such a bafoon when it comes to picking and arranging my own color choices. Which is probably why I stick so close to Ruth and her color picks. A couple years ago, Ruth knit Damson using Mini Mochi. The design is simple and so is the yarn, but in combination they make a gorgeous combination. Ruth is also the designer behind Ruth's Entrelac Butterfly which yarn-love exclusively carries.
Entrelac is such a beautiful and easy technique. Michelle definitely caught the Entrelac bug. Check out these beautiful socks! If you want to learn this simple, but complex looking technique, sign up for Pam's Entrelac Headband Class. It meets just once on Saturday, February 18. See our class page for more details.
Each one of you is so full of talent. When you get discouraged or need some fiber refreshment, check out your Ravelry friends' projects. I know they brightened my spirits on these cloudy days. See you Friday!
