The Top 10 Reason You Should Knit (or Crochet)
By Diane Rizzo (knitrizz in Ravelry; Princess Di to all friends)
Before you start reading, Di would like to encourage you to do as Stephanie Pearl-McPhee says in her seminars: feel free to replace the word ‘knitting’ with ‘crocheting.’ Enjoy!
10. Knitting gives you a reason to get out of bed. What else is there?
9. You get to be a part of the yarn cartel: the knitting community-at-large and on the local level. You meet the best people on the planet.
8. You become a patient waiter. Never again will you get annoyed at the doctor’s office, grocery store, or the 3-hour traffic jam. Strap on your knitting wherever you go.
7. Knitting is a stimulus for our sagging economy. When exchanging cash for yarn at your LYS (local yarn shop), you can honestly put a smile on your face when pulling out your wallet. You’re helping America.
6. You will create a family heirloom. When a hand-knit piece is handed down generation to generation, they will remember Auntie Sue or Uncle Dave. What a knitter!
5. Knitting is sexy. A woman (or man) never gets too old to be sexy.
4. Knitting is a superb diet aid. If your hands are getting busy with the yarn, they can’t get busy feeding your face. But beware of the M&M row counters.
3. Knitting is a great stress buster. You can get into the ebb and flow of the knitting and just Zen out. Although, the Zen-like state can quickly dry up at midnight when you make a $&@#$ mistake you just can’t fix.
2. The YARN! WOW! The luscious, soft, vibrant, vivid, wonderful, scrumptious, fuzzy, delightful YARNS! The eye-popping, breath-taking, fabulous YARNS! AAAHHHHH….
And the number one reason why you should knit:
1. “I made it myself!” When someone admires that new sweater and asks you where she or he can purchase one, you can honestly say, “I made it myself!” Knitting plugs into your creative bad self. Wear it boldly. Wear it proudly. Wear it sexily! |
