Our talented instructors are committed to helping others learn – and they bring learning alive in our dedicated classroom. Baby Life-Ring Socks

Beginner Knitting

Why not knit? This 4-session learn-to-knit class covers all the basics for casting on, knitting and purling Continental style, and binding off. This class focuses on helping new knitters handle needles and yarn, develop an even tension in knitting, measure knitting gauge, read a pattern, and identify future knitting projects.

Blocks-A-Million!

Here’s your opportunity to try out new stitch patterns with support, connect with other knitters, and knit blocks on a monthly basis. Your blocks can then be joined to create a special blanket or pillow. (Oh, think of the color and design possibilities!) Child's Vest - With or Without a Cable

In this class you will learn the basics of knitting a simple child's vest with the option of adding a cable to add texture and interest. The class will also cover how to read a pattern, how to measure, how to bind off, how to pick up stitches, and how to use a circular needle among other things. So, let’s get the needles clicking!

Continental Knitting Workshop

If you are an experienced right-hand knitter who wants to learn to knit Continental style, this is the workshop for you! In this 2-hour session, you will learn and practice how to hold your yarn in your left hand and knit in a more efficient way. Continental knitting also reduces potential wrist strain that may occur from “throwing” yarn, and it also increases the ease of color work knitting.

Crochet Basics

Learn the basics of crocheting in three class meetings! This class is designed to give students an introduction to crochet and reading crochet patterns. This class is perfect, too, for knitters who want to learn crochet basics for adding borders and trim on completed projects. Attendees will learn several common crochet stitches including chain stitch; single, double, and triple crochet stitches; and a single crochet rib stitch.  After learning the basics, students will complete a small project. This 6-hour beginner class will meet weekly for three 2-hour sessions.

Crocheted Borders Introduction

Here’s your opportunity to learn how to make your projects shine by adding crocheted borders. Crocheted borders are a terrific finishing technique that will make your to your knitted, crocheted or woven projects special. This 2-session class will focus on the following design borders: single crochet, chains, simple shell, eyelet, clusters, basic ruffle, picot, popcorn, and puff stitch.

Materials (not included in fee): Worsted weight yarn in solid color for borders, crochet hook size F or G, stitch markers, scissors
Swatches: Bring a total of 12 swatches prepared using worsted weight solid yarn on which to add borders. You can either knit samples or crochet samples, or prepare a combination of sample types (e.g., knit 6 and crochet 6). Knit swatch suggestions: 40 stitches x 10 rows in either garter or stockinette. Crochet swatch suggestions: 40 stitches x 5 rows of single crochet.
Prior Knowledge: Familiarity with basic crochet stitches – single, double, half-double, slip stitch, and chains

Entrelac Bag

Here's your opportunity to learn the entrelac stitch pattern and knit a fabulous shoulder bag in the round. Entrelac is the French word for interlaced; and, in knitting, it produces a textured diamond pattern where each square is knit at right angles to its neighboring square. Using a variegated or striping yarn creates a rich and complex looking bag—even though no color changes are necessary! Please plan to work on your project between classes.

Fair Isle Hat

This class is a perfect introduction to fair isle knitting. In this class, you will knit a three-color fair isle hat using worsted weight yarn. You will learn how to color knit, using several colors of yarn to produce a rich looking knitted project.

Felted Clogs

Keep your feet warm in style! Here's your opportunity to knit felt clogs in an adult or children's size. Have fun and knit them in one or two colors, and even add in a fuzzy designer yarn if you'd like! This 2-session class uses Fiber Trends patterns and covers all the steps from casting on to binding off. A pair of warm and cozy slippers makes a terrific holiday gift.

Flower Basket Lace Shawl Scarf

This is the sweetest lace stitch pattern! Here’s your chance to bring Spring into your winter by knitting a darling lace shawl. This shawl, designed by Evelyn Clark, is perfect for wearing all-year round – now, for adding a special spring-y touch when worn now over your turtlenecks or long-sleeved tops; and, later, to keep your neck and shoulders warm during spring and cool summer days and nights.

Inside-Outside Scarf

This cool scarf uses two skeins of a long-repeat variegated yarn (such as Skacel Loft or Noro Kureyon). As you knit the scarf, you work from the outside of one skein and the inside of the second skein. The colorways progress through "opposite" color sequences and intersect midway in the scarf. The shop sample will be finished shortly!  This workshop meets on First Friday: Plan to work on your new scarf at yarn-love after the workshop ends.  Or, attend both workshops on First Friday – See Totally Tubular Cast On.

Intarsia Star Pillow

Here’s your opportunity to learn intarsia knitting and make a pillow to brighten up your home. The class will use Sarah James Star Pillow pattern (pictured at right). You have your choice of knitting the pillow in its full finished measurements (16” x 16”) or in a smaller size (approximately 8 ½’ x 8 ½”). This class meets for two sessions scheduled a month apart to allow for knitting time. The second session focuses on blocking and pillow seaming techniques.

Junior Knit Jacket

Here’s an excellent first sweater project! This child’s top-down jacket is easy to knit – with minimal seams and no button holes. It knits up quickly using 2 strands of chunky weight yarn. The pattern is sized for 6 months to 6 years, and you can even add a cute hood with a tassel. This is also a great “take along” project.

Kitchener Stitch

Here's your opportunity to untangle this common grafting technique! In this one-hour workshop, you will learn and practice the Kitchener stitch – a technique for grafting two sets of live stitches. Your seam will bind stitches together invisibly and is perfect for the toes of socks, baby garments, the underarms of knit-in-the-round sweaters, and other items where you do not want thick bound off edges sewn together.

Materials (not included in fee): Swatches, blunt tapestry needle, a length of contrasting worsted weight yarn for grafting. Recommended but not required: ‘I Hate to Finish Sweaters’ Guide to Finishing Sweaters by Janet Szabo.
Swatches: Bring one pair of matching stockinette knit swatches – the swatches should be knitted using a smooth worsted weight yarn, have an even stitch count, and should not be bound off. Swatch suggestion: 20 stitches x 10 rows. You may leave your stitches on needles or place them on stitch markers. Please feel free to bring along a current project (socks, etc.) to use in the class.

Knitting Basics 1-2-3-4

This comprehensive learn-to-knit class is perfect for all ages and meets weekly for four sessions. At the end of the class, you will have completed a small felted knitting accessory bag. The class will begin with a brief overview of yarn, needles, and accessories. Attendees will learn how to read a pattern, cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, bind off, and finish and felt their project. This 8-hour beginner class will meet weekly for 4 2-hour sessions.

Magic Loop Socks

This 4-session sock class will show you how to knit socks using only one circular needle. You learn how to use the Magic Loop technique throughout all the sections of a sock. This is a great class for all levels of knitters – from beginners and new sock knitters to experienced knitters and those who have mastered knitting socks using double points.

Here's your opportunity to learn the swoopy Moebius cast-on technique while knitting a fabulous cowl. This multifunctional cowl can be draped around your neck, pulled up to cover your head, or sassily worn around your hips. What a great project to brighten up the sometimes dreary winter days!

Montana Checkered Cardigan

In this class, you will knit a cozy (and quick!) Checkered Cardigan with three-quarter length sleeves. This Tahki design uses two colors of Montana, a bulky 100% pure new wool to knit a slip stitch pattern. Enroll early and select your yarn color choices to ensure you get your favorite colors. Class sessions will focus on getting started, understanding the stitch pattern, and seaming your cardigan pieces.

No More Sloppy Seams! Learn Several Common Seam Techniques

If you avoid selecting patterns that require putting knitted pieces together or just simply want to get better at seaming, this class is for you! In this two-hour workshop, you will learn how to put knitted pieces together using several common seaming techniques. We will use The ‘I Hate to Finish Sweaters’ Guide to Finishing Sweaters as our guide, which contains practical information and helpful illustrations to support you in your seaming after the workshop. Socks on DPNs

Here's your opportunity to learn the basics of sock knitting, including reading a sock pattern. You will learn to knit a fabulous pair of self-striping socks from the top down on double-pointed needles. Workshop sessions will focus on ribbing socks, knitting socks in a stockinette stitch pattern, turning the sock heel, and finishing the toe. This 8 hour sock class will meet weekly for four two-hour sessions.

Toe-Up Socks

Bottoms up! This class will guide you through knitting socks from the toe up using double-pointed needles. We will use a sport-weight yarn which will make your socks super cozy for wintertime wear.

Top-Down Sweater

This is the perfect sweater to make, especially for first-time sweater knitters! This stockinette stitch sweater is knitted in one piece beginning at the neck and requires minimal finishing. You choose the yarn and sweater size, newborn through adult sizes. Please plan to work on your project between sessions.

Totally Tubular Cast On

Description: Loosen up and learn to create a stretchy yet loose cast on edge for ribbing! The tubular cast on method creates a stretchy yet loose edge that is very comfortable to wear and has no noticeable ridge. This method is perfect for K1P1 ribbing projects such as socks, hats, gloves, and mittens. This workshop meets on First Friday: Bring a project with you and come early and stay late! Or, attend both workshops on First Friday – See Inside-Outside Scarf.

What Did I Just Do, and How Do I Fix It?

We've all done it!! Now, let’s learn how to easily fix mistakes in our knitting. In this two-hour workshop you will learn how to get your knitting back on your needles (without twisting stitches), how to unknit (“tink”) or rip back (“frog”) your work, how to pick up dropped stitches, and how to fix stitch mistakes in common stitch patterns.

Crochet hook and knitted swatches

Bring 5 5"x5" worsted weight yarn knitted swatches on stitch holders in the following five stitch patterns. Do not bind off your swatches! Instead, keep your stitches "live" by placing them on a stitch holder.

  1. stockinette (you can keep this one on your needle, since we’ll start with this one in class!)
  2. garter
  3. seed
  4. 2 x 2 ribbing
  5. simple lace pattern of yarn overs (YO) and knit two togethers (K2tog). (see lace stitch pattern)
Lace stitch pattern: The 4-row lace pattern contains 18 stitches with a 3 stitch border on each side of the swatch. For one pattern repeat, cast on 24 stitches; for a two pattern repeat, cast on 42 stitches (36 pattern stitches + 6 stitches for border).
  • Row 1: k (right side)
  • Row 2: k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3
  • Row 3: k3, *[k2tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2tog] 3 times; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
  • Row 4: k
Repeat rows 1-4 until swatch is 5" in length
Prior Knowledge: Ability to differentiate between knit and purl stitches is helpful

Learn to cable while making a scarf with super-soft chunky weight yarn. This one skein project will knit up quickly and help you master cabling.

Continental Knitting Workshop

If you are an experienced right-hand knitter who wants to learn to knit Continental style, this is the workshop for you! In this 2-hour session, you will learn and practice how to hold your yarn in your left hand and knit in a more efficient way. Continental knitting also reduces potential wrist strain that may occur from “throwing” yarn, and it also increases the ease of color work knitting.

Crochet Basics

Learn the basics of crocheting in three class meetings! This class is designed to give students an introduction to crochet and reading crochet patterns. This class is perfect, too, for knitters who want to learn crochet basics for adding borders and trim on completed projects. Attendees will learn several common crochet stitches including chain stitch; single, double, and triple crochet stitches; and a single crochet rib stitch.  After learning the basics, students will complete a small project. This 6-hour beginner class will meet weekly for three 2-hour sessions.

Crocheted Borders Introduction

Here’s your opportunity to learn how to make your projects shine by adding crocheted borders. Crocheted borders are a terrific finishing technique that will make your to your knitted, crocheted or woven projects special. This 2-session class will focus on the following design borders: single crochet, chains, simple shell, eyelet, clusters, basic ruffle, picot, popcorn, and puff stitch.

Swatches: Bring a total of 12 swatches prepared using worsted weight solid yarn on which to add borders. You can either knit samples or crochet samples, or prepare a combination of sample types (e.g., knit 6 and crochet 6). Knit swatch suggestions: 40 stitches x 10 rows in either garter or stockinette. Entrelac Bag

Here's your opportunity to learn the entrelac stitch pattern and knit a fabulous shoulder bag in the round. Entrelac is the French word for interlaced; and, in knitting, it produces a textured diamond pattern where each square is knit at right angles to its neighboring square. Using a variegated or striping yarn creates a rich and complex looking bag—even though no color changes are necessary! Please plan to work on your project between classes.

Fair Isle Hat

Keep your feet warm in style! Here's your opportunity to knit felt clogs in an adult or children's size. Inside-Outside Scarf

This cool scarf uses two skeins of a long-repeat variegated yarn (such as Skacel Loft or Noro Kureyon). As you knit the scarf, you work from the outside of one skein and the inside of the second skein. The colorways progress through "opposite" color sequences and intersect midway in the scarf. The shop sample will be finished shortly!  This workshop meets on First Friday: Plan to work on your new scarf at yarn-love after the workshop ends.  Or, attend both workshops on First Friday – See Totally Tubular Cast On.

Intarsia Star Pillow

Here’s your opportunity to learn intarsia knitting and make a pillow to brighten up your home. The class will use Sarah James Star Pillow pattern (pictured at right). You have your choice of knitting the pillow in its full finished measurements (16” x 16”) or in a smaller size (approximately 8 ½’ x 8 ½”). This class meets for two sessions scheduled a month apart to allow for knitting time. The second session focuses on blocking and pillow seaming techniques.

Junior Knit Jacket

Here’s an excellent first sweater project! This child’s top-down jacket is easy to knit – with minimal seams and no button holes. It knits up quickly using 2 strands of chunky weight yarn. Kitchener Stitch

Here's your opportunity to untangle this common grafting technique! In this one-hour workshop, you will learn and practice the Kitchener stitch – a technique for grafting two sets of live stitches. Your seam will bind stitches together invisibly and is perfect for the toes of socks, baby garments, the underarms of knit-in-the-round sweaters, and other items where you do not want thick bound off edges sewn together.

Totally Tubular Cast On

Description: Loosen up and learn to create a stretchy yet loose cast on edge for ribbing! The tubular cast on method creates a stretchy yet loose edge that is very comfortable to wear and has no noticeable ridge. This method is perfect for K1P1 ribbing projects such as socks, hats, gloves, and mittens. This workshop meets on First Friday: Bring a project with you and come early and stay late! What Did I Just Do, and How Do I Fix It?

We've all done it!! Now, let’s learn how to easily fix mistakes in our knitting. In this two-hour workshop you will learn how to get your knitting back on your needles (without twisting stitches), how to unknit (“tink”) or rip back (“frog”) your work, how to pick up dropped stitches, and how to fix stitch mistakes in common stitch patterns.

Crochet hook and knitted swatches

Bring 5 5"x5" worsted weight yarn knitted swatches on stitch holders in the following five stitch patterns. Do not bind off your swatches! Instead, keep your stitches "live" by placing them on a stitch holder.

  1. stockinette (you can keep this one on your needle, since we’ll start with this one in class!)
  2. garter
  3. seed
  4. 2 x 2 ribbing
  5. simple lace pattern of yarn overs (YO) and knit two togethers (K2tog). (see lace stitch pattern)
Lace stitch pattern: The 4-row lace pattern contains 18 stitches with a 3 stitch border on each side of the swatch. For one pattern repeat, cast on 24 stitches; for a two pattern repeat, cast on 42 stitches (36 pattern stitches + 6 stitches for border).
  • Row 1: k (right side)
  • Row 2: k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3
  • Row 3: k3, *[k2tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2tog] 3 times; repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3
